With printed newspapers in steep decline, what does the future hold for journalism? This blog discusses the trends, while linking to articles in the (online) press

Fondation EurActiv has as one of its objectives the protection of editorial independence, especially among online media. Julian Oliver, Secretary General, invites all those interested in or concerned about the future of journalism in Europe to contribute ideas, news and above all potential solutions to the many challenges identified. How can online publishers ensure high ethical standards? Can self-regulation guarantee editorial independence? Are schools of journalism providing sufficient career advice and opportunities? Will online publishers grow a European demos more effectively than political parties or their print homologise have done so far? Is quality journalism doomed by the race to entertainment?
